But scientists must have a fancy for acceptance and since they could find no indication anyone of this 'universal fluid,' indeed, no fancy at all as to how these cures were effected, they threw everything out. Mesmerism, or anyone he liked to call it, must be a load of rubbish.
Most population today don't have any idea what hypnotism is or why it works and that includes some hypnotists! Is it any wonder, then, that the normal collective are suspicious of it?

Everyone has a popular story that is dusted off once a year to vaccinate against materialism of Christmas holidays.

Perhaps more approved this year is a short poem called "Christmas Bells" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Though written 139 years ago, "Christmas Bells" has single meaning. It is an expression of reborn faith in God while a period of doubt and dismay about a great war.
Longfellow -- America's first, great poet -- was a devout Unitarian, a dedicated anti-slavery abolitionist and a devoted family man. Tragedies keen loved ones shook these foundations upon which the poet had built his life.
Tragedy
Early in 1861, Longfellow's wife, Fanny, burned to death when she dropped a lighted match on her long dress. She was melting sealing wax onto envelopes for relatives.
The envelopes contained locks of "golden" hair from their youngest child -- five-year-old Edith.
Longfellow's second son, Ernest, in later years associated how the five children were the inspiration of his father's popular poem "The Children's Hour."
"While walking up an down with baby Edith in his arms, my father composed -- and often sang to her -- the lines sometimes attributed to mom Goose."
There was a small girl
Who had a small curl,
Right in the middle of her forehead.
When she was good,
She was ve-ry good,
But when she was bad

Longfellow rushed to the aid of his screaming wife and tried to smother the flames by throwing his arms nearby her.
It was no use. Fanny died three hours later. Henry was badly burned and could not attend her funeral the next day. His face was so scarred after the ordeal he could not shave and so grew a beard.
Civil War
While still grieving his wife's death, the Civil War started -- and with it, Longfellow's fervent hope for abolition of slavery by peaceful means.
Seventeen-year-old Charles Longfellow - oldest son of the famed poet -- slipped away from home to join the Union Army.
He had shot off his left thumb in a hunting accident. This kept him out of the infantry which was his first choice. Instead, he was inducted as a hidden and assigned to the First Massachusetts Artillery.
Charles proved to be a capable soldier and soon was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the First Massachusetts Cavalry.
In this capacity he fought in the Mine Run Campaign at New Hope Church, Virginia, on Nov. 27, 1863. He was severely injured with a bullet wound in his shoulders, near his spine, and was evacuated to a hospital near Washington, D.C.
When father Longfellow was informed of this, he and son Ernest went to the hospital and was given permission to take Charles home to recuperate.
Faith Tested
During the long days and nights that his son hovered in the middle of life and death, Longfellow's faith in God wavered. It seemed that his family was wasted, the war useless and God was dead..
In short, he suffered the same torment many folks do today when the birth of Jesus - Son of God - is challenged, and the escort of the Iraq War doubted.
As Longfellow sat nursing his son straight through a long Christmas Eve, he reflected upon the meaning of life. At daybreak he was roused from his inner crusade by the sound of church bells announcing Christmas Day.
It was a symbolic call to Longfellow. He responded with the following poem in which you, too, may find inspiration for carrying on an additional one Year.

These days, it is quite rare for me to see parents who will take the time to look for toddler christening gowns for their babies. It does make me wonder either this is a dying tradition or not.
Modern Parents
Times have changed as parents these days do not seem to place much emphasis on religion any more. What more when we talk about christening ceremonies when some of the friends I know no longer even attend church due to their hectic work lifestyle. So you can just fantasize how extra busy they come to be when they start having babies. This coupled with the fact that they have to work over time due to massive work load. When I asked one of my friends who recently had a baby daughter a few weeks ago on either they would be going to church and having their baby girls christened, she told me that they may not even have the time what more to even go look for any toddler christening gowns!
Do Not Need Christening Outfits
There was also an additional one friend of mine whom I recently had a chat with. Their baby girls is already nearly 6 months old but both parents have not had the time to even attend church. They come home from work and on Saturdays they spend that time cleaning up the whole house and doing all the laundry. By Sunday, they try to catch up with as much sleep as potential since their week days are spent traveling nearby for work purposes. Since they did feel a tinge of guilt when I asked them on when was the last time they went to church, they felt sheepish and mentioned that it was about a year ago. Valentine's Day is considered one of my beloved occasions to share with my family and single friends especially to share with my children. Its baking up those cakes, desserts and cookies and manufacture lovely Valentine Day cards too. I have abundance of ideas to share with you. Going out to the movies can be a great way for friends to spend Valentine's Day. Going to movies is not one of the most beloved activities on Valentine's Day so you will likely not have to worry about long lines or shows being sold out. If couples do choose to go to the movies, they are likely to flock to romantic movies so you and your friend can avoid the crowds by choosing a comedy or a science fiction movie you have been wanting to see.
Another fun way to spend Valentine's Day with a friend is to get dressed up and go bowling. Bowling can be a lot of fun and it is not commonly an performance couples tend to favor for Valentine's Day. Try getting dressed up in your old prom attire and head to the local bowling alley. The children certainly enjoy pleasure in writing a personal note on the Valentine's Day card.
To ensure the homemade Valentine cards do not get crush or dropped on the ground and in expanding to allow them to carry back their Valentine's Day they received from school. We will make a uncomplicated tote bag with cut out hearts from building paper, and you will need some permanent markers, too.
I remind my children to consider others in their class or friends in the neighborhood. When we go to our local dollar store or craft store and we buy pink, white and tulle, wide ribbons and plastic goodies bags with hearts. We place a small whole of candy in the middle of the table. Chocolate candies or heart-shaped candies are good. We place the tulle or plastic bags on the table. We place a few pieces of sweets in the plastic goodie bags and if you have a stapler, fold the top of the goodie bag and you can staple the goodie bag with a piece of ribbon attached and tie the ribbon into a bow. Then, the cut tulle that are in squares place the candy in the center and get the ribbon and assist your children to tie the sides up with ribbon.

Buy a piece of floral foam (you can buy at a craft store and they commonly come in to colors white and green) and place the cookies in the bottom of a box or in a plastic container to set your flower cookies in. Dispose your heart cookie flowers to unblemished this gift together with your children.
Another idea for children teachers is buy a 4- inch terracotta pot and improve the container with acrylic paints, glitter glue or self-adhesive foam hearts. If you have time make a beef roast with rosemary/garlic potatoes and with cooked carrots sauteed in butter with fresh squeezed lemon and tablespoon of brown sugar.

Couples with or without children its your time to spend with each other. One thing to remember when searching for a romantic gift is that a truly romantic gift does not have to be complicated. A uncomplicated candlelight dinner can be one of the most romantic gifts you can give man on Valentine's Day. You can whether plan on manufacture dinner yourself or ordering dinner in from a beloved restaurant. Be-My-Valentine Cookies
Total Time: 2 hr 20 min
Prep Time: 2 hr
Cook Time: 20 min
For cookies:
1 cup(s) (unsalted ) butter, softened
3 ounce(s) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup(s) sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon(s) peppermint or vanilla extract
3 cup(s) flour
For Glaze
12 ounce(s) package, 2 cups, semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoon(s) shortening
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, couple butter, cream cheese, sugar, egg and peppermint or vanilla extract. Using electric mixer, beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Reduce speed to low; add flour. Continue beating until well mixed. Divide dough in half; wrap each half in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate dough for 2 hours or overnight.
2. Preheat oven to 375 F. Roll out half of the dough (keep the remaining dough refrigerated) to 1/4-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface. Cut out cookies using a 2-1/2-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes, or until edges are very lightly browned. remove from cookie sheets; cool completely on wire rack.
3. Line cookie sheets with waxed paper. Melt chocolate chips and shortening in 1-quart saucepan over low heat, stirring often, until just melted and level (4 to 6 minutes). Dip half of each heart into the chocolate. Place cookies on lined cookie sheets and refrigerate until chocolate is firm. Store refrigerated in airtight containers, with waxed paper separating layers of cookies.

Day 7 brings us one week into our 25 days of Christmas, a time to talk about all things Christmas and the traditions we celebrate.
Today I want to talk about remembering, and specifically remembering those who are no longer with us. We think of them at Christmas, sometimes with fond memories, sometimes with happy ones, and sometimes just a bit sad that they are no longer with us.
Twenty-nine years ago today, my grandfather died. It was, at the time, the worst contact of my life. It was two days before my birthday, and he was my Grandad. For the first two and a half years of my life, he was "Daddy," as my mother was newly divorced and my grandparents took care of me while she worked. I was the first grandchild and at last the only girl. To say he spoiled me would be an understatement. I helped him bleed brakes on the car when he worked on them, I tagged him everywhere he went. When we lived in a little house behind the bar where he often stopped on the way home from work, I remember dressing up and putting on my "high heels" and running out the door saying "I'm going to have Cokes with Grandad." I was five. We were each other's staunch supporters and nobody ever came in the middle of us on that. For the last five years of his life, I was the only one who was allowed to hug or kiss him. He also paid to send me to my first year of college, paying for everything so I didn't have to work. He helped me buy my first car and then paid it off and let me make lower payments to him when my hours were cut at work. He was also the someone in my life who believed I could do no wrong. I used to joke that he could find me standing over a dead body with a smoking gun in my hand and he would still swear I didn't do it. Losing him created a huge hole in my life and in my heart and I still miss him terribly even today.
Then there is my grandmother. She was my former caretaker when I was a baby because my mother worked. The bond we advanced is the bond that babies regularly create with their mothers. I have all the time said she is my best friend. There has never been whatever in my life I couldn't share with her. And I all the time knew she believed in me, no matter what. Today Gram is 96 years old. You might wonder why I have included her here. You see, the dementia of age has taken over and she simply, in many ways, is no longer here. That's been a tough realization for me this week. I've had some emotional things that I just needed to talk with her about and we just don't have those same conversations. Still, that love is still there. Not too long after I moved back to the States, she was living with us and said to me "I've all the time been so proud of you and what you've accomplished." My response was, "yea, well, I'm unemployed right now." Her write back is one I will treasure forever: "Well, form out what you want to do and do it. whatever that is, you'll be successful. I believe in you." Even through her dementia, those times still come through and I cherish them.
In the last year, any of my friends have lost their parents. In just this last week, one someone lost her father in law. Someone else friend of mine lost both her mother and her dog in the same week. Loss is hard at any time in our life. Somehow the holidays seem to magnify it a bit more.
So this week, take some time to remember those you may be missing this year. I believe simply acknowledging that is helpful. Remember the things you did together, the things you loved about the person, and just simply let yourself be okay with missing them at this extra time of year.
